A Dream
I dreamt I was an
Eagle,
Soaring the winds
alone.
I sailed through
the sky
As a messenger between
The earth and the
Stars.
I lived with fierce
pride,
Hunting, and crying
my
Solitary song to
the winds.
I was free - Nothing
could bind me
To the earth or
to the air.
The day was clear,
and cool,
And I looked across
my sunlit wings
Only to find looking
back,
Another one just
like me.
Somehow she had
drifted close, across the cloudy sea.
We banked and we
dived,
And played tag among
the clouds.
Laughing, we burst
through a flock
Of startled song-birds,
Not hunting anything
except ourselves.
The day’s end drew
near,
And as the last
golden rays of the sun
Vanished beneath
the distant horizon,
We flew apart,
On different currents
of air.
Now and then I catch
a glimpse of
That magnificent
other,
As we each go about
our separate ways,
And now I wait,
and I hunt
For the time when
we can again fly as one.
